Building The Perfect Registry

Building The Perfect Registry

Now that you are engaged; the pre-wedding festivities can begin! First up is your engagement party and bridal showers. Before invitations for these events can be ordered, you need to consider what (and where) you will register for the items you and your fiance will use in your home together.

First things first, take a look around in your kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom to determine the items that would be useful based on what you already do and do not own. Taking this assessment prevents duplicates of things you already own and ensures you pick items that are functional for your lifestyle. When you are compiling a list of what would be useful; it is helpful think a few years ahead. While you may not plan to host dinner parties or large family meals in the first year of marriage; consider the possibility of this happening in the next few years.

Second, shop local. Locally owned gift boutiques and retail stores can provide items that are unique; not likely to be seen the next time you and your spouse are invited to dinner with another newlywed friend or relative. Local gift shops also allow you to browse. You can physically pick out the items you would like to have for your home as well as please loved ones who prefer to choose your wedding gift in person. This is a more personal experience that everyone can enjoy; especially if the staff is helpful and has useful recommendations for your needs. Often, stores like these have a particular style to the items they offer with groups of items featuring more specific motifs. Depending on the inventory  of the store, it is possible to continue to build your personal style collection after your wedding day with additional pieces that reflect your personal style.

Third, register for items that will last a lifetime. After the wedding dust settles, you and your new spouse will begin building your life together. The items you receive from your loved ones should be high quality items that will stand the test of time. It is important to choose brands known for quality products and timeless design. While a few on-trend items are of course appropriate; the majority of your registry should contain items that will not appear outdated in the next two to five years. When choosing items that you plan to keep for many years, it can be helpful to stay with neutral coloring, excellent materials, and products known for their longevity.

The Year of the Rooster!

The Year of the Rooster!

January 28th, 2017 is the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar and it's the year of the Rooster! Chinese New Year was set to coincide with the downtime just before a new year of farm work begins. Now it has become a time to celebrate the start of a new business year and wishing for profits and success! Julianne's is celebrating it for the first time since opening our doors in April last year and we want to help you bring blessing upon your own lives.

Celebrating this time can be fun, we suggest having guests over the night before to bring in the year with a party! Traditionally, sweet rice dumpling soup is served but you can put a twist on it by ordering take-out or cooking up traditional Chinese dishes. Decorating your tablescape is a must too! We suggest using a red and gold color scheme, with lanterns and paper flowers. Red dishes, that you most likely used around the holidays, can be used and mixed with any white plates or serving dishes you may have. We also found these adorable ceramic take out boxes that can be used for serving or holding utensils. Don't forget the chopsticks! For those who have a hard time using these, they can use our sporks! Since it's the year of the rooster, find any rooster decor you can. We have little Chinese roosters that are so cute! You can always use it after the new year as well. Last touches can be fortune cookies and chocolates from Wiseman House, because who doesn't love chocolate? We would love to help you get ready for this special holiday, come by the shop or shop from the comfort of your couch!
