This bowl was turned in February, 2018, and is a combination of figured Texas Live Oak (Quercus stellata) and Kansas walnut (Juglans Nigra). In 2010 a post oak tree was harvested for fire wood at my grandfather's house in Stephenville, Texas. After eight years of sitting at the bottom of his fire wood pile, I noticed the log had a distinct grain that could be seen when the bark was removed. This log is definitely one of the best looking pieces of wood I have ever worked with. I inserted a walnut inlay in the center of the bowl. Who would have guessed this beautiful bowl was made out of a piece of fire wood?
